I've had a Raspberry Pi sitting in its box for about three months now, but couldn't find the time to get around to it. Finally got it squared away today, and I'm impressed. Running a VNC server at boot, 'cause I'm groovy like that.

At first glance I'm always thinking "I must have one of these things" when I'm first reading about them, but then my mind starts asking "what for", and my eyes are bleeding while looking at all the gadgets that are already eating up space in my den.

Yeah, that's why it took so long to get around to it. I've got Windows 7, Mac Mountain Lion, PC-BSD 9.1, DOS 5.0, Win98SE, and Windows XP at the house. Work adds Server 2003 and FreeBSD 9. I guess I just wanted to see what a Debian install on ARM could do, and the answer is: quite a lot. The key here is that the computer itself is US$35. I'm impressed by how much one can run on it. (That's 26.85 Euro, by the way, at today's exchange rate.) The mainboard is the size of a credit card, and it has full HDMI output, and overclocks to 1Ghz. Want one? I have another on the way to me that I could divert to you.

Thanks for the friendly offer. I hope you're not finding it impolite when my answer is "no, thanks". I'm trying to stay away from too much fumbling around with computers, the job is already providing me with enough of this kind of excitement.
