Here's a sketchy compilation of our party planks. How many of these planks would you endorse, if you were elected the Senator of your province? And which planks would it be?

Agree. Agree Interesting idea. Im not sure if it would work though. What functions of the Seneschal could such a person take over without one of these two offices becoming rather useless? I have supported the idea of an elected Seneschal (direct or indirect via the cosa) rather than an appointed Seneschal before, but I think this needs some more thought. At this point I cant promise to vote in favour of such a reform, but Im certainly open to more discussion on this issue. Agree. I voted in favour of the RUMP proposal for a semi-secret ballot, but I believe it would be better if we would go one step further. I think this should be achieved by growth of the population rather than by a large decrease in the size of the cosa. I would not be strongly opposed to a decrease to say 100 seats, but I dont think it should be much smaller than that. The SoS could hire deputies to do some of the work. A larger chancery would be a better idea I think than creating new institutions. Agree Disagree. I'm not a peculiarist, but a moderate radical. . I do think there are more issues than those mentioned here on which we can agree. For example, Im hoping to get rid of the ban on dual citizenship, the semi-permeable wall and the rather strict oath we got at the moment. As I mentioned in the thread I intend to come up with an explanation of my voting record so far in the senate and probably some kind of platform-ish thing. I can imagine the NPW wants to wait with its endorsements until more is know about potential other candidates.

Thanks for the detailed reply.
As for the details of a new distribution of powers between a President and the Senschál, we haven't really discussed this yet. But for instance, I imgine that the right of issuing Prime Dictates could go to a President. These instant writs would be called Executive Orders then, and would require the countersignature of the Seneschal.
Also some mundane powers would be vested into the role of the President. For instance, he / she might become the military leader of our nationette in case of defence; realistically, this is of course a highly theoretical power.
The elected President (or a Presidential Office behind the President) would be the one who is checking the constitutionality of laws that passed the Ziu and signs them into effect; this political power would be taken off the shoulders of the King in this scenario.
As for a more convenient guest account, give us a while to ponder this. The problem is that on proboards members-only fora become visible to all registered users, AFAIK, which would be a loss of a minimal level of privacy.

There should be a way to assign permissions to an individual sub-forum so that some users can see it and others can't. In the ancient Kingdom on Proboards, a registered user could not see the hidden stuff until citizenship was achieved, but everything else was visible. Speaking of which, are you the Admin?

I completely understand you dont want anyone to have access to the private part of the forum. At the MRPT forum we solved this by creating a membergroup for MRPT members. The private part of the forum can only be seen by administrators or MRPT members and others can create their own account without getting access to the private part. (I created a test account to make sure nonmember accounts cant see it)

PS. Would it be ok to create an account here so I dont have to fill in a captcha every time I post? If you would be so kind as to send me an email with your preferred username and password, I will set up an account for you. It's andy at ajlowry dot net. Those advertising captchas are horrendously annoying, aren't they?
